Summary

Steve Englehart and Gene Colan set before you a series of unmatched Doctor Strange classics! Dormammu and Umar attack, and Eternity declares that the end times are here。 To save us all, Stephen Strange must confront - himself - or it'll be the end of the world as we know it! Englehart concludes his run with a Dracula crossover, a trip to Hell and a time-travelling Occult History of America。 Then, Marv Wolfman and Jim Starlin take the reins, pitting the good Doctor against Xander the Merciless and Clea gone mad! It's a descent into the bizarre Quadriverse that ends with a reckoning, as Strange confronts his status as Sorcerer Supreme! All this, plus a beautifully illustrated Annual by co-writer/artist P。 Craig Russell! COLLECTING: VOL。 4: DOCTOR STRANGE (1974) 6-28, ANNUAL (1977) 1; TOMB OF DRACULA (1972) 44; GIANT-SIZE DOCTOR STRANGE (1975) 1 (COVER ONLY)

I think it’s time to face facts: I find Dr。 Strange more conceptually compelling than I do in actual (reading) practice。 I love the idea of magic in all its forms, and I’m particularly intrigued by the intersection of magic and superpowers in a universe not always governed by Earthian physics。 I also love the idea of astral projection and different, trippy, far-out dimensions, often drawn by kickass artists。 And, I am totally in on the idea of a guy who can see beyond the veil and stands as our I think it’s time to face facts: I find Dr。 Strange more conceptually compelling than I do in actual (reading) practice。 I love the idea of magic in all its forms, and I’m particularly intrigued by the intersection of magic and superpowers in a universe not always governed by Earthian physics。 I also love the idea of astral projection and different, trippy, far-out dimensions, often drawn by kickass artists。 And, I am totally in on the idea of a guy who can see beyond the veil and stands as our first and last line of defense against supernatural incursion, particularly one with a stylish Greenwich Village abode。 Unfortunately, when the rubber meets the road in so many Dr。 Strange comics—this collection included, despite the great writers and artists who worked on it—there’s just something missing。 An element of humanity, perhaps? A through-line to the main Marvel U? A connection to other compelling people and characters we care about (because Wong and Clea ain’t it)? I want to love these stories, but I only like them, which feels unfulfilling。 Strange seems to work best as a supporting character, dropping in to help Spidey or the Avengers or the X-Men resolve magical mayhem。 I’d read the hell out of a Marvel Two-in-One where each month we get Strange paired with a different hero (or heroes)。 That would be perfect。 If you Marvel folks need someone to write that, I’m free。 By which I mean not busy。 But, I’m also cheap, by which I mean I will work for very little money。 Think about it。 。。。more
